About 40 cars collided on a highway in Akmola Oblast. The information was confirmed by the press service of the regional Police Department.
Judging by the video filmed by eyewitnesses and participants in the mass accident, there is a severe snowstorm on the highway.
"At 13:30 in Akmola region, between the village of Kogam and the village of Karatal in the Birzhansal district, due to worsening weather conditions (blizzard, limited visibility), a preliminary collision of about 40 cars occurred. There is no information on victims or injured yet," the department said in a statement.
Police and emergency services are working on the scene. Vehicles are being evacuated and road safety is being ensured.
Earlier, emergency services warned of a possible deterioration in weather in the region, and therefore all drivers were advised to refrain from driving, especially on country roads.
“We urge drivers to take weather conditions into account, be extremely careful on the roads and refrain from traveling in this direction until the situation improves,” the department said.
