Problems with access to some Internet resources (TikTok and Instagram) during the holidays are not related to technical failures, said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev. He is quoted by KazTAG.
"These are two unrelated areas. The fact that TikTok worked slowly and that there were certain failures are not related in any way," the Minister of Digital Development explained at a press conference in the government.
In response to questions about whether the communications and internet outages were linked to the state’s reinsurance against rallies and protests, the minister stated that he “does not have such information.”
He said the internet outages over the past holidays were caused by technical difficulties with integration and database loads.
"We have many databases in Kazakhstan, they are all integrated with each other. Large requests and processes are hidden behind these technologies. Therefore, a failure can occur in any organization, in any bank, in any government agency, in any country. We responded quickly and resolved the issues. It was not like people sat with problems for 2, 3, 4 days because there was some kind of failure," Madiyev added.
He recalled that the Ministry of Culture and the National Security Committee are responsible for working with Internet platforms.
"We have a government agency that is responsible for working with Internet platforms – this is the Ministry of Culture and Information. Together with the National Security Committee, they work on Internet content with Internet platforms and so on. If you are specifically interested in TikTok, then this is not a question for our ministry," Madiyev said.
According to him, there will be no interruptions in internet service during the New Year holidays.
