Interdistrict Civil Court of Astana issued a ruling on the claim of a resident of the East Kazakhstan region and lawyer Serikzhan Akhmetzhanov, who demanded that the government decree on Kazakhstan's transition to a single time zone be cancelled. This was reported by Informburo.
The court decided to deny the claim. But the judge did not voice the reasoning behind the decision. "The claim of Serikzhan Maratovich Akhmetzhanov is denied," said Judge Asanova, adding that the decision could be appealed within a month.
Serikzhan Akhmetzhanov demanded that the government's resolution on the transition to a single time zone be declared illegal. He said that, as a resident of VKO, he suffers from the time change, because in the region the sun sets by 16:00. According to Akhmetzhanov, the position of residents was not initially considered when discussing the issue, which is a violation.
"We will definitely appeal, all the way to the Constitutional Court and to international bodies. We have such an opportunity. We are not putting an end to this. It is even good that the court made a decision and accepted the claim on the merits," Akhmetzhanov said, as quoted by the publication "Vlast".
Let us recall that on the night of March 1, 2024, Kazakhstan switched to a single time zone UTC+5. This decision caused indignation among citizens, who filed a petition to cancel the transition, but the Ministry of Trade rejected it.
Then the government made a final decision on a single time zone in the country.
In December, the Amanat party advocated for Kazakhstan to return to its previous time zone. Majilisman Elnur Beisenbayev said that dissatisfied citizens continue to contact the party. According to him, more than 10 million people are against a single time zone in the country. And therefore, members of parliament instructed government agencies to complete a scientific study on the issue of a single time zone by March 2025.
