How the problem with street dogs in Akmola region will be solved, the region's akim Marat Akhmetzhanov told, Kazinform reports . The publication writes that this issue is acute in the region, as the animals roam in packs around schools, frightening children and adults.
"The issue is two-sided. Yes, there is a problem, and it needs to be addressed, but there are also animal rights activists. Recently, dog corpses were found in the city of Koshy. I have taken control of this issue. A criminal case has been opened under Article 316 – Cruelty to animals. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway, all the circumstances will be established, and the perpetrators will be brought to criminal responsibility," Marat Akhmetzhanov noted at a briefing at the CCS.
He said that the problem of street animals should be solved comprehensively. Therefore, a memorandum has already been signed with the Astana city administration.
"A decision was made to use the legal possibilities of the law "On the Astana agglomeration". We are allocating a large plot of land, the city of Astana will build a state shelter for dogs," the akim shared.
Earlier it was reported that stray and domestic dogs were shot en masse in Koshy.
