Anthrax was detected at a cattle market in Atyrau. Two cows have died there since the beginning of the month. The first death of an animal was recorded on November 12. Veterinary tests confirmed the infection. Nine days later, another cow died. After the incident, 16 people who had contact with the cattle were isolated. One of them was hospitalized with a fever. The results of his tests are not ready yet. Ak Zhaiyk writes about the situation.
According to the publication, the cow, which was diagnosed with anthrax, was delivered from the village of Zhanakazan in the Zhanakalinsky district of the West Kazakhstan region. As noted by the chairman of the Asyl-Agro farm Nuftolla Kulbasov, a vaccination certificate for the animal was available.
"Usually, live cattle are brought to this market for subsequent sale. The dead cow had been at the market for about 15 days. When it arrived, it was emaciated, but it had a veterinary certificate and anthrax vaccination. It should be noted that cattle are not always sold immediately. Sometimes they remain at the market for several days, where the animals are provided with feed, hay and water. After the cow died on November 12, I immediately reported it to the veterinarians. They took samples and sent them to a research center in Astana. The results showed that the animal died of anthrax," Kulbasov said.
What else is known
On November 21, another cow died at the market. It was brought to Atyrau from the Kurmangazy district. Veterinarians also took tissue samples from the animal to determine the cause of death.
"On the evening of November 22, it became clear that one of the isolated people was hospitalized in the regional hospital with a fever. His tests should be ready soon," the portal writes.
According to the publication, the market was closed after the infection was detected. However, about 50 animals remain there. Samples were taken from all of them for testing. Also, tests were taken from isolated people who had contact with the cattle. But their results are still unknown.
Earlier, on August 29, two patients with suspected anthrax were also admitted to the Almaty City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital from the Almaty region. They received the necessary treatment.
