Two children, aged 2 and 4, died in a fire in a residential building in Karaganda. Two more children, aged 7 and 9, as well as a 60-year-old woman, were taken to hospital. This was reported by the press service of the Department of Emergency Situations of the Karaganda region, KazTAG reports .
"On the night of January 9, in Karaganda on Prishakhtinskaya Street, a fire broke out in the roof, ceiling and household items of a two-apartment residential building. The fire was completely extinguished by the Ministry of Emergency Situations over a total area of 50 square meters," the report says.
Before the rescuers arrived, two children born in 2017 and 2015 got out of the house on their own and were taken to the Children's Clinical Hospital with a preliminary diagnosis of carbon monoxide poisoning. Firefighters also rescued a woman born in 1964, who was hospitalized in the Makazhanova Clinic with carbon monoxide poisoning and burns. At the scene of the tragedy, rescuers found the bodies of two children born in 2020 and 2022.
The preliminary cause of the fire is a short circuit in electrical wires. The Department of Emergency Situations reported that a criminal case has been opened on the fact of the fire, and expert examinations have been ordered.
