The Almaty Region Emergency Situations Department warns of an increased risk of avalanches in the region's mountains. Residents, tourists and vacationers are advised to refrain from visiting snowy slopes and strictly observe safety precautions.
"In the mountains of Almaty region, the avalanche danger remains from January 1 to 2, 2025. The Department of Emergency Situations strongly asks citizens, tourists and vacationers not to go out onto snowy slopes due to the possible triggering of avalanches, and also to observe all safety measures and behavior in mountainous areas," the statement says.
There are 55 avalanche-prone areas in the Almaty region, which are located in the Yenbekshikazakh, Talgar and Karasai districts along the southern slope of the Ile-Alatau mountain range.
Avalanches generally occur due to rising temperatures and heavy precipitation in the form of rain and snow.
