The Almaty Akimat calls on city residents to be careful and attentive on the roads, and to temporarily refrain from traveling to the Medeu skating rink and the Shymbulak ski resort.
The snowfall, which began on the morning of December 20, is creating an increased load on the roads, and the traffic is complicating their cleaning. According to forecasts, the snowfall will end closer to 21:00. The press service of the Almaty Akimat reported that 603 units of special equipment and more than a thousand road workers are involved in eliminating its consequences. 130 sand spreaders are on duty at the sites.
Special attention is paid to the mountainous areas of Almaty. South of Al-Farabi Avenue, 28 units of equipment are working, treating roads with anti-icing materials. 70 units of small-sized equipment are clearing sidewalks, bus stops and parking areas.
“After the heavy snowfall on December 15–16, 45,500 cubic meters of snow were removed from the city streets in four days,” the Akimat said.
According to the RSE Kazhydromet, the height of the new snow cover today will be up to 9 mm, the Akimat notes.
"The city's public utilities continue to operate in an enhanced mode to ensure road safety. City residents are urged to exercise caution and be attentive on the roads. It is also recommended to temporarily refrain from traveling to the Medeu skating rink and the Shymbulak ski resort until the snowfall ends. This may create an increased load on traffic, which will complicate the work of clearing the roads," the press service of the Almaty Akimat reported.
