Platform turnstiles will be installed at Almaty metro stations for passenger safety. At new stations that are planned to be built, such turnstiles will be taken into account during the design. This was announced by the city's akim, Yerbolat Dosayev, at a briefing, the Vlast publication reports .
"The current infrastructure (metro) does not meet all the necessary standards related to the construction of an inclusive Almaty. Platform turnstiles will be installed to close the inter-district space and solve not only the issues of inclusion. This concerns the safety of our children and so on," said Akim Dosayev.
He specified that these works will be carried out at the beginning of 2025. Dosayev also said that these standards will be mandatory when designing new metro stations.
Let us recall that on December 10, at the Abay metro station, a 26-year-old man fell onto the rails while trying to get into a train car. The young man died on the spot. The police department reported that he was visually impaired. Later, the Kazakh Society of the Blind reported on the deceased.
