The Central Election Commission of Belarus has accepted documents for the registration of the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko for the presidential election, the BELTA news agency reported . All the necessary documents were submitted by the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FPB) Yuri Senko.
“Under the power of attorney, I submitted documents to the Central Election Commission on the registration of Alexander Lukashenko as a candidate for President of the Republic of Belarus,” Senko said.
Lukashenko has become the last contender to be registered as a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections. Earlier, documents were submitted to the CEC for registration as presidential candidates Anna Kanopatskaya, Oleg Gaidukevich, Aleksandr Khizhnyak, and Sergei Syrankov.
The presidential elections in Belarus will be held on January 26, 2025.
Alexander Lukashenko first became president in 1994 and has been re-elected several times since. He is now nearing the end of his sixth term.
