The Kazakh Society of the Blind has provided details about the young man who died in the Almaty metro. The information is being reported by Channel 31.
The deceased's name was Kanat Batkalgazy, he lived in Talgar. His eyesight began to deteriorate sharply in adolescence due to a genetic predisposition. The young man underwent more than five operations, but doctors were unable to restore his vision. Friends describe Kanat as a hardworking person. Despite his disability, he had been involved in government procurement since the age of 18 using a voice program installed on his computer. He earned money, took care of his grandparents, who raised him. In addition, Kanat was a student at a medical college, studying to be a massage therapist.
Let us recall that on December 10, at the Abay metro station, a 26-year-old visually impaired person fell onto the rails while trying to get into a train car. The young man died on the spot.
The Kazakh Society of the Blind also believes that the metro is an inconvenient form of transport for the blind. For example, the distance from the station entrance to the carriages is long, making it very difficult for the blind to get there, especially without an escort.
In addition, there have been many complaints lately about scooters being scattered around. Visually impaired people trip over them and fall. Falls into ditches also occur, since there are no tactile paths in many places.
"They fall into ditches. In many places there are no tactile roads. These roads guide the disabled. With a stick, when walking – it guides and warns where there are barriers and obstacles," said Altynai Ibragimova, chairwoman of the Almaty branch of the NGO "Kazakh Society of the Blind".
