Earlier, the Almaty Region Prosecutor’s Office called on citizens “not to give in to calls to participate in illegal rallies.”
"Organization and participation in such events are a gross violation of the law and entail serious consequences. These actions entail administrative liability (Article 488 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) and criminal liability (Article 400 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan). Please note that participation in illegal actions may lead to administrative arrest, large fines, and criminal prosecution," the police statement said.
The department's appeal came after an incident in the village of Azat on December 10, where the funeral of the uncle of Sherzat Bolat, who was killed in Talgar, took place. According to preliminary information from the police, Nurkanat Gaiypbayev committed suicide .
After the funeral, the police detained Sherzat's father, Karzhaubai Nurymov, who, according to law enforcement, behaved aggressively, made threats to those around him, threatened to commit suicide, and also attacked a police officer with a knife. The man was arrested for 15 days "for hooliganism."
