More than 10 million people against a single time zone in Kazakhstan — Amanat

Amanat party deputies called on the Kazakh government to complete a scientific study on the impact of a single time zone on Kazakhstanis by March 2025 – that is, in three months, not three years.

Yesterday, as Kursiv writes , the Amanat faction deputies held a meeting with the heads of the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Science. The Majilis members told the ministers that citizens were “receiving many requests” regarding the introduction of a single time zone, and in their opinion, this issue should be resolved at the level of law, and not by government decree.

Majilis Speaker Erlan Koshanov stated that research on the impact of the new era on health should be completed by March 2025.

"We must get an answer: how does the change of time affect the health and well-being of our citizens, their comfortable life. This should be a priority. At the same time, I believe that the three years that the government is talking about is too long a period. Therefore, it will be right if you complete the study within three months. And in March 2025, we are waiting for you with the results of the study and proposals with specific solutions," Koshanov said.

He was later supported by Majilis member Elnur Beisenbayev, who recalled that the party had already spoken out against the hasty decision to switch to a single time zone in September.

"We have set certain conditions for the government: they must complete the study within three months. We must already discuss this position in a substantive, high-quality manner. >…< There is a great public outcry. More than 10 million people say that they are against [the time change]. Eight regions have expressed their specific [doubts]. >…< We held a faction meeting, where we said that this decision has not been studied, has not been finalized. In this regard, Amanat proposes to finalize and adopt an acceptable decision that will suit all the people. This also shows that Amanat is for changing the time back," Beisenbayev said.
