The Almaty gastronomic center PlatformA will host a lecture series of the Book Culture project, dedicated to the topics of ecology, climate change and sustainable development. In the lectures, experts will share research results, practical recommendations and inspire a careful look at the environment.
It is noted that the lectures will be accompanied by illustrations by the artist Irina Khvan. The host of the event is science popularizer Oleg Yurkovich.
Lecture program:
- "Eco-thinking is a new skill of the 21st century", the author of the lecture is ecologist, eco-activist, co-founder of the Recycle Birge Public Foundation Pakizat Sailaubekova. Pakizat will conduct a crash course on environmental issues. She will talk about the importance of eco-thinking, give steps for an eco-friendly lifestyle and share books from Kazakhstani publishers on the topic of ecology.
- "Climate anxiety. How to save the planet and not go crazy", the author of the lecture is psychologist Maxim Isakov. Maxim will share observations and data from open studies devoted to the topic of climate anxiety. He will discuss with the participants methods of maintaining mental comfort, especially in the conditions of a megalopolis.
- "City Animals: Who Lives Next to Us?" lecture by the head of the laboratory of arachnology and other invertebrates of the Institute of Zoology Aidyn Eszhanov. From the lecture, viewers will learn how animals adapt to the urban environment, what zoonoses and green zones are, and what consequences of human activity animals face.
- The event will end with a lecture entitled “The End of the World in Popular Culture,” in which Ilya Yun, author of the Vgeeek project, will talk about how famous authors, directors, and writers work with the fear of the ecological end, how they predict and comprehend this issue.
