Children's Rights Commissioner Dinara Zakieva expressed condolences in connection with the recent tragedy in Akmola Oblast – two children died in a fire in the village of Shubaragash. She reported that the circumstances of the tragedy are being clarified and an investigation is underway.
Since the beginning of 2024, there have been 15 fires in Kazakhstan with the death of children, as Zakieva notes, and in most cases the children were alone at home.
"Analyzing these facts, I believe it is necessary to develop legislative measures to prohibit leaving children under 12 years of age without adult supervision. Of course, at the same time, it is necessary that families in need of support are provided with assistance programs provided by the state," the ombudsman said.
Earlier, two children born in 2017 and 2021 died from smoke inhalation in a fire in the Akmola region. Rescuers emphasized that no calls were received on the emergency numbers of the Department of Emergency Situations. The fire was extinguished by eyewitnesses.
