Serik Sapiyev is returning to public service and will head the sports department of the Karaganda region. This was reported by the publication "Vlast" with reference to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. His candidacy was approved by a special commission.
Sapiyev, 41, a former professional boxer, previously served as a member of the Majilis (2017–2019) and headed the sports committee at the Ministry of Tourism for two years. His last position was vice president of the National Olympic Committee.
The commission also approved the candidacy of Azamat Imashev for the post of head of the physical education and sports department of the Pavlodar region. For the past two years, 43-year-old Imashev has been deputy chairman of the sports committee, and before that he worked as deputy director of the Directorate for Sports Development and headed a sports school in Astana.
