The Kazakh film Madina by director Aizhan Kasymbek was selected for the Asian Film Festival Barcelona in Spain. This was reported by actress Madina Akylbek on Instagram.
"Our film Madina was selected for the Asian Film Festival Barcelona in Spain. Everyone who has not yet seen it, but really wants to see the film Madina, will be glad to see you at our screening in Barcelona. Follow the news, I will announce the time and place of the screening very soon," the message says.
Earlier, the film Madina was shown at the Tokyo International Film Festival as part of the Asian Future program. "Madina" became one of two Kazakhstani films at the festival, along with "Bauyrina Salu" by Askhat Kuchincherekov.
Plot
The events of the film revolve around a girl named Madina. The main character is a young single mother raising a little daughter and looking after her younger brother and her own mother. They live in western Kazakhstan, where the cold winter combines with the raging waves of the Caspian Sea. The landscape of the film complements the world of Madina, who is used to surviving in harsh conditions. During the day, the girl teaches dance to children and adults, and in the evening she works as a dancer at events. She spends breaks between shifts with her family, taking on the problems of her loved ones.
It should be noted that Aizhan Kasymbek's film is partly based on the real story of actress Madina Akylbek, who played the main role in the film.
Aizhan Kasymbek is the daughter of director Kanymbek Kasymbekov. "Madina" is the girl's second full-length work. Her debut film "Ot" ("Fire") was shown at the international film festival in Busan.
