Filming of a Kazakh-Spanish film for the Netflix platform about the events during the time of Karlag, one of the largest camps of the Stalin era, has begun in Spain, writes the publication Vlast.
The project is called "The Truce" (La Tregua). The plot of the film will tell about the fates of people who found themselves in the conditions of Karlag, their struggle for survival and the preservation of human dignity. The film stands out for its unique approach to covering little-known pages of history, combining European and Kazakhstani visions.
Filming will last 2.5 months in Bilbao. The sets, recreating the atmosphere of Karlag in the 1930s–1950s, were built taking into account archival documents and consultations with historians. The actors’ costumes were recreated based on archival materials.
The project is headed by director Miguel Angel Vivas, who became famous thanks to the series "Money Heist". The main roles are played by Kazakh actors Dina Tasbulatova, Altynai Nogerbek, Sergey Ufimtsev and Farabi Akkozov. Among the Spanish actors are Miguel Herran (known for his role as Rio in the TV series "Money Heist") and Aaron Pipper (known for his role as Andrea Muñoz in the drama "Elite").
The Spanish film company Plano a Plano will be responsible for a significant part of the process, and the Kazakh side is represented by Amanat Capital, where Amanat Konakbayev is the general producer of the film. UMAIFILM will also act as a producer.
