Since the beginning of the year, officers of the units for combating organized crime have detained 14 criminals who, posing as police officers, were engaged in “protection”, fraud and extortion of money from citizens, Polisia.kz reports .
In November in Shymkent, a group of people posing as police officers, through deception and blackmail, promising “patronage”, received monthly cash of up to 1.5 million tenge.
In Aktobe, two young men, posing as police officers, used violence to openly steal 300 thousand tenge from two city residents.
In Konayev, UBOP officers detained two residents of the Almaty region who, posing as operatives, extorted 500 thousand tenge from a guy for not disseminating incriminating information.
Fake service IDs, documents and uniforms were confiscated. The suspects were arrested.
"Modern technologies allow fraudsters to obtain various information about potential victims. In addition, criminals often use psychological techniques to manipulate people, causing them to feel fear. The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends that any illegal actions by persons posing as law enforcement officers be immediately reported to the police. Awareness and vigilance of the population can significantly reduce the number of such crimes. Prevention in this area continues," said Kuandyk Alpys, a representative of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
