A new airport terminal will be built in Usharal. This was announced by Transport Minister Marat Karabayev during a meeting with residents of the Zhetysu region.
Two construction options are being considered: to build a small terminal next to the existing one, dividing the buildings into arrival and departure zones, or to build a terminal with a larger area.
Currently, the Akimat is conducting an analysis and developing a feasibility study for the project.
Usharal Airport opened in 1970 as a military airfield to support the nearby garrison. Since the mid-2010s, it has primarily received seasonal flights with tourists traveling to Lake Alakol. In 2024, flights from Astana, Almaty, and Taldykorgan were operated to the airport.
